"We admitted we were powerless..."

I've been introducing this modest little town that I now call home, (Metropolis, Illinois) "the home of Superman". So what does this have to do with what my blog is meant to be about? Well for those who have recovered or is in the reocovery process the expression, "geographical change" is quite familiar. We have all thought of it at one time or another,"If I move to another state, job, house, etc. things will be different."
Sometimes we are "powerless" because of our stations in life. We may be in a situation where other people have power over us. We may feel trapped by the demands of others and that there is no way to please them all. Its a double bind: To please one is to disappoint another. Sometimes when we feel stuck and frustrated with our relationships or where we are, we look for control by escaping through our addictive behaviors, eating, drinking, drugs,people,and even continuing to roll around in the trauma that . So what do we do? We run, that geographical change, and we find out that we take ourselves with us! We have to learn to express ourselves, our pain, instead of running from it.
